山田宗樹 「ギフテッド」
あらすじを読んで面白そうだったので読んでみました。
主人公の少年は通常の人間にはない未知の臓器を体内に持っていた。その臓器を持つ人たちには何かしらの特殊な能力があると発表されてから人類の進化系として期待されて「ギフテッド」と呼ばれていた。一方ギフテッドだけが集められた養成施設では超能力があるかを自身たちで試しており、人前では使えないが本当に超能力があることに薄々気づき始めていた。
月日が経ってギフテッドの超能力が嘘だと浸透し始めていたころ、ギフテッドの集会所を襲撃したグループが逆に超能力によって爆死する事件が発生する。それを機に共存を目指していたギフテッドが弾圧されはじめる、というお話。
SFエンターテイメント系の作品です。
何冊か読んできましたが山田さんのSF小説は現実感が割とあるので読んでいて面白い。
今回の作品のテーマは「差別」なので「少数だけど能力が高い」という集団が現れたらどうなるかというのをリアルに表現しているように見えます。
本作での通常の人間側の人たちの心象を読んでいると「人種差別」がいまだに残っているのと似てるという印象でした。一度差別をしてマウンティング取ってしまうと、もし平等の世の中になったときに今まで差別してきたグループから報復されるという恐怖に苛まれるようです。SFの話のはずなのに妙に既視感があるのはこういったつながりを想像させられるからなのかもしれません。
「敵意を向け続けたら、いつか相手からその数倍の敵意が返ってくる」と作中に書かれていました。
なぜこうなるかを考えてみると、出来事に時間軸が加わるからだろうという結論になりました。
パワハラで例えてみると「パワハラされた」に対する反撃は注意や叱責レベルが妥当になりますが、
これが「パワハラを一年間受け続けた」になった途端に出来事×365日になり「パワハラに対する反撃」としてはあまりに巨大な破壊力に変貌します。これに失った尊厳分まで上乗せされたりしたら殺傷物になってもおかしくないでしょう。
日々の鬱憤の積み重ねというのはこういった形で出てくるので気を付けましょう。
単行本なのに600ページもあって読むのは少々大変ですが、SF小説好きならおススメです。

I read the outline and it seemed interesting, so I tried reading it.
The hero had an unknown organ inside the body that is not found in normal humans.
People with that organ were announced to have some special ability, expected to be the evolutionary system of mankind. People called them "Gifted". On the other hand, at training facilities where only gifted were gathered, they were trying themselves with supernatural power. In public it was not possible to use it, but I was starting to notice that there was really supernatural power.
When the day passed, and people thought that Gifted's supernatural power is a lie. The incident that the group that attacked the gifted gathering place bombs death by Supernatural power occurs.
The gifted which was aiming for coexistence with it is started to be repressed.
This is a work of SF entertainment system.
The theme of this novel is "discrimination", so realistically expressing what will happen if a group of "few, but highly capable" appears.
I was reading the mental state of the people on the usual human side in this novel, I thought that "racial discrimination" still remained. Once discriminating and taking mounting, People fear that they will be retaliated from groups that have been discriminating against before when they are in an equality world.
It may be because it is supposed to be science fiction, but it seems strange to have a sense of deceitivity because you can imagine such a connection.
It is written in this "If you continue to host an enmity, someday your opponent will return several times hostility.".
Considering why this happens, we concluded that it would be due to the time axis being added to the event.
In analogy with power harassment, strict attention and rebuke are reasonable counterattacks against "Power Harassment".
When this becomes "to keep receiving power harassment for one year", because it becomes 365 times as "a counterattack against power harassment" it turns into a huge destructive power. It will not be strange even if it becomes a killing case if it is added up to the dignity lost to this.
There are 600 pages and reading is a little hard, but if you like science fiction novels it is recommended.
