下村敦史 「告白の余白」
気にいっている作家さんで面白そうな作品があったので読んでみました。
主人公の実家に双子の兄が久しぶりに帰ってきた。農地の半分を生前贈与してほしいと懇願され、手続きを済ませた翌日に兄は自殺してしまった。遺書が残されており、京都に住んでいる兄の知り合いの女性に譲るよう書かれていた。名指しされていた女性の元へ行くと自分の兄と勘違いしたため、兄のフリをして自殺の真相を探るというお話。
会話で推理するミステリー小説です。帯に書かれている「会話のすべてが伏線」のとおり。会話から相手の心情と行動の真意を読み解くという推理をしていくのがメインとなります。物的な証拠はむしろあまり出て来ないので、理詰めで推理するのが得意な人ほど難しく感じると思います。会話の表現の仕方が工夫できるという点で京都を舞台にしたのはうまいと思いました。
ミステリー面以外でも京都の伝統や文化、祭りなどいろいろなことが書かれています。京都人が持つ独特のもてなしの気構えや人間関係の保ち方も紹介されています。京都は古いしきたりが多いので、よそさんにかなり厳しいようです。観光で行くと素敵ですが永住するとなると大変な気がしました。
帯にも書いてありますが「京女の言うことは言葉通りに受け取った方が幸せ」というテーマが本書にはありました。
お金をだまし取れるなどは例外ですが、京女にかぎらず他人からの言葉はそのまま受け取った方がストレスは少なくて良いと思っています。相手の嘘を見破って真相を晒す、というのをカッコよく見せているドラマとか多いですが、それは職業柄やらないといけないだけで普通の人がやったら誰も会話してくれなくなります。どうしても嘘を見破りたいなら、言葉ではなく行動を見るといいです。口は咄嗟でも嘘が出ますが行動だとそれは難しいので、言葉と行動が食い違っていたら行動の方が本音というのが私の経験則です。
下村さんの本は帯で嘘をつかないので好感が持てます。

I found an interesting one. I like this writer.
Twin old brother came back to the hero's parents' house for the first time in a long time. He was begged to ask his old brother to give half of the farm land before life. But his old brother committed suicide the day after I completed the procedure. His wills were left, it was written to give the land to the acquaintance's woman who lives in Kyoto. When he visited a woman, who had been named her, she misunderstood him as his older brother.
This is a mystery novel to deduce by conversation. "All of the conversation hints" is correct. Reading out the real intention of the other's heart and action from the conversation. The physical evidence is rather rare, so
I think that it is harder for people who are good at reasoning and reasoning. He can devise how to express the conversation, so this novel set in Kyoto is good.
A variety of things are written such as tradition and culture of Kyoto, festival. Kyoto's unique hospitality and how to keep human relations are introduced. Kyoto has many old traditions, so it seems to be quite severe to the outsider. It is wonderful to go sightseeing, but it seems tough to live in Kyoto.
"What women in Kyoto say is happier to receive it as it is" is written in this novel.
It is an exception to cheat money, but I think that it is better for people receiving words from others to have less stress, not limited to women in Kyoto. He finds out the truth by seeing the other's lies, there are common dramas showing this coolly. It only needs to do job profession, no one will talk if an ordinary person does it.
If you really want to see lies, it is good to see actions rather than words. It is easy to tell a lie by improvisation, but it is difficult if it is an action. So, it is my rule of thumb if words and actions are inconsistent, behavior is more real.
Shimomura's book can be likable because it does not tell a lie in a band.
